Speeding Up WordPress: Optimizing Your Site with LiteSpeed Cache and Redis

Making your website faster is a great way to improve the experience for your visitors, boost your search rankings, and increase conversions. But optimizing a website can also be tricky, and changing the wrong settings can break things.

That’s why it’s important to be cautious when making changes, especially when it comes to caching. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the safe way to set up the LiteSpeed Cache plugin, enable advanced features like Rediscaching, and use QUIC.cloud for image optimization. We’ll also remind you when it’s necessary to clear your cache and avoid common pitfalls like caching your wp-admin area.

Step 1: Start with LiteSpeed Cache Plugin Presets (Be Careful!)

When you’re speeding up your website, it’s important to take things slowly and test after every change. The LiteSpeed Cache plugin offers presets to help you start with safe settings that you can build on later.

Here’s how to safely begin with the Essentials preset:

  1. Log into your WordPress Dashboard: Go to yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
  2. Go to LiteSpeed Cache Settings: In the left-hand menu, click LiteSpeed Cache > Presets.
  3. Select a Preset:
    • Essentials: A good starting point for most users. This preset will give you basic speed improvements without risking your site’s functionality.
    • Advanced: For users who want to dig deeper into performance. Caution: Test thoroughly—some of these settings may cause issues on your site.
  4. Apply the Preset: Once you’ve selected your preset, apply it, and test your site to ensure everything works properly.

Step 2: Activate LiteSpeed Cache (If Not Already Active)

If you installed WordPress through HubSeek’s app tool, LiteSpeed Cache is already installed, but it may not be activated yet. If you haven’t installed it yet, here’s how:

If LiteSpeed Cache is Installed:

  1. Log into your WordPress Dashboard: Go to yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
  2. Go to Plugins: In the left-hand menu, click Plugins and scroll down to find LiteSpeed Cache.
  3. Activate the Plugin: Click Activate if it’s not already active.

If LiteSpeed Cache is Not Installed:

  1. Go to Plugins: In your WordPress dashboard, click Plugins > Add New.
  2. Search for LiteSpeed Cache: In the search bar, type “LiteSpeed Cache.”
  3. Install and Activate: Click Install Now, then Activate.

Step 3: Basic LiteSpeed Cache Settings

Once LiteSpeed Cache is activated, you can start configuring it. The default settings are usually fine, but let’s check a few key options to make sure your site is running smoothly.

  1. Go to LiteSpeed Cache Settings: In your WordPress dashboard, go to LiteSpeed Cache > General.
  2. Enable Caching: Make sure Enable Cache is turned on.
  3. Set Cache TTL (Time to Live): The default TTL (how long a cached version of a page is stored) works for most sites, but you can adjust it under the TTL tab if needed.

Step 4: Clear Cache After Making Changes

Whenever you make changes to your website (like adding new content, installing plugins, or adjusting settings), it’s important to clear your cache so visitors see the most up-to-date version of your site.

Here’s how to clear the cache:

  1. Go to LiteSpeed Cache: In your WordPress dashboard, go to LiteSpeed Cache > Manage.
  2. Clear Cache: Click Purge All to clear the entire site cache.

ImportantNever cache your wp-admin area (the WordPress dashboard). LiteSpeed Cache automatically avoids caching this part of your site by default, but it’s something to keep in mind if you make any custom changes to cache settings.

Step 5: Enable Redis for Faster Database Queries

If your site has a lot of content or traffic, enabling Redis can make your site even faster by speeding up database queries.

Here’s how to enable Redis:

  1. Enable Redis in the HubSeek Control Panel:
    • Log into your HubSeek Control Panel: Go to panel.hubseek.com.
    • Open the Websites section: Select the website where you want to enable Redis.
    • Enable Redis: In the website dashboard, select Advanced, then go to Developer Tools.
    • Toggle Redis On.
  2. Configure Redis in LiteSpeed Cache:
    • Go to LiteSpeed Cache Settings: In your WordPress dashboard, go to LiteSpeed Cache > Cache > Object.
    • Enable Redis: Toggle Enable Object Cache to On.
    • Set Redis Connection Info: Enter the following:
      • Host127.0.0.1
      • Port6379
    • Save Changes.

Step 6: Image Optimization with QUIC.cloud

Optimizing images is a quick and easy way to speed up your site, and QUIC.cloud offers free image optimization tools for LiteSpeed users.

Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Enter Your Server IP in LiteSpeed Settings:
    • Before connecting to QUIC.cloud, add your server’s IP to LiteSpeed Cache.
    • Go to LiteSpeed Cache Settings: In WordPress, go to LiteSpeed Cache > General.
    • Scroll down to Server IP and enter your server’s IP address. You can find your server IP in your HubSeek control panel.
  2. Connect to QUIC.cloud:
    • Go to LiteSpeed Cache Settings: In your WordPress dashboard, click LiteSpeed Cache > General > Domain Key.
    • Click Request Domain Key and follow the prompts to connect your site to QUIC.cloud.
  3. Enable Image Optimization:
    • Once connected, go to LiteSpeed Cache > Image Optimization.
    • Click Send Optimization Request to start optimizing your images with QUIC.cloud.

Tip: We recommend using QUIC.cloud only for image optimization. Advanced features may require more configuration and could break your site if not set up correctly.

Wrapping Up

Using LiteSpeed Cache, enabling Redis, and optimizing images with QUIC.cloud will all help make your WordPress site faster and more efficient. But always start with safe settingstest your site after changes, and clear your cacheregularly.

And remember: Avoid caching wp-admin and be cautious with advanced settings. If you want to explore more, check out the LiteSpeed Cache documentation.
