How to Import Your Website from cPanel to HubSeek: A Step-by-Step Guide
Welcome to HubSeek! If you’ve been using cPanel and want to move your website over to our hosting platform, don’t worry—it’s easier than it sounds. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to import your cPanel website to HubSeek, just like moving all your stuff from one house to another.
Let’s get started!
Step 1: Make a Full Backup in cPanel
Before you move anything, you need to make a full backup of your website. This is like packing up everything in your house before you move to a new one. Here’s how to do it:
- Log into cPanel: Go to your cPanel login page (e.g.,
yourwebsite.com/cpanel
) and enter your username and password. - Find the Backup Tool: Once you’re inside cPanel, scroll down until you find the Backup section, then click Backup Wizard (or just Backup).
- Create a Full Backup:
- Click Backup to start the process.
- Next, choose Full Backup. This will create a copy of everything on your site—files, emails, databases, and more.
- Choose a Destination:
- You’ll need to choose where to save this backup. Select Home Directory to save it on the server, or choose Remote FTP Server if you want to save it elsewhere (you’ll most likely choose Home Directory).
- Start the Backup: Click Generate Backup. It might take a little while, depending on how big your site is. Once it’s done, cPanel will send you an email to let you know.
Step 2: Download Your Backup
Now that your backup is ready, it’s time to download it. This is like taking your moving boxes out of the house and getting them ready for the move.
- Access the Backup File: Go back to your cPanel File Manager (or use FTP) and find the backup file. It will look something like this:
backup-date.tar.gz
. - Download the File: Use File Manager or an FTP client (like FileZilla) to download the backup to your computer. Make sure you save it somewhere safe on your desktop—this is what you’ll upload to HubSeek.
Step 3: Import the Backup into HubSeek
Now that you’ve packed everything up, it’s time to move it to your new home—HubSeek! Here’s how you can do that using our cPanel Importer tool.
- Log into HubSeek Control Panel: Go to panel.hubseek.com and log into your HubSeek account.
- Go to Website Importer: On the left sidebar, click Website Importer, then click New Import.
- Select cPanel: Choose cPanel as the type of import you’re doing.
- Upload Your Backup:
- Click Choose File, then find and upload the
.tar.gz
backup file you downloaded from cPanel earlier. - Hit Next Step to start the import process.
- Check for Conflicts: After uploading, HubSeek will check to make sure there aren’t any conflicts with your current setup. If you see a red warning, don’t worry—it just means something needs to be adjusted. Follow the on-screen instructions to fix any conflicts.
- Finish the Import: Once everything looks good, click Import Now to finish the process. Your website will now be fully imported into HubSeek!
Step 4: Don’t Forget to Update Your DNS
If you haven’t already updated your domain’s DNS settings, now is the time to do so. Without this step, your domain may still be pointing to your old hosting provider, and your website won’t be live on HubSeek.
You have two options:
- Option 1: Use Cloudflare
If you prefer extra security and performance, we recommend using Cloudflare. Follow the steps in our Getting Started: Setting Up Your Domain’s Nameservers with Cloudflare guide to complete this setup. - Option 2: Use HubSeek’s Nameservers
If you want to point your domain directly to HubSeek, you can update your nameservers to:- ns1.hubseek.com
- ns2.hubseek.com
For detailed instructions on how to update your DNS, visit this guide.
What Will Be Imported?
When you import a full cPanel backup, all the following things will come along for the ride:
- Primary website and any subdomains, add-ons, or parked domains.
- All files and databases.
- Any email accounts (with their passwords and email data).
- SSL certificates, cron jobs, and FTP accounts.
- MX and TXT records (like SPF for email).
What Won’t Be Imported?
There are a few things that won’t transfer over because they’re specific to cPanel and aren’t supported by HubSeek:
- PostgreSQL databases
- Wildcard subdomains
- Mailman settings (email list management)
- Directory privacy
- Catch-all email addresses
- Autoresponders (email)
- Calendars and contacts
- Existing website statistics and error pages
Important Note: If you use external providers for services like email marketing (e.g., AWeber, Mailchimp), file storage, or calendars, those tools won’t be affected by the import process. Since they operate outside of cPanel, your existing data and integrations with these third-party tools will stay intact. This list only applies to features managed within cPanel itself.
Important Notes
- Domain Conflicts: If any domains you’re importing already exist in your HubSeek account, you’ll need to delete them before continuing with the import.
- Time to Complete: Depending on the size of your website, this process could take a few minutes or up to an hour. Just be patient!
