Stay Safe: How to Back Up and Restore Your Website
At HubSeek, we’ve got your back! All of our hosting plans come with daily backups, so your website is automatically backed up each day without you needing to lift a finger. However, there are times when you might want to create a manual backup—for example, if you’re about to make significant updates to your site, install a new plugin, or make changes to your website’s design.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to create your own backup and, if needed, restore your website to an earlier version.
How to Generate a Backup
Even though daily backups are automatic, you can create your own manual backup if you’re getting ready to make changes or updates to your website, such as:
- Installing new plugins
- Updating your theme or WordPress version
- Making significant changes to your website’s design or content
Here’s how to generate a backup:
- Log into your HubSeek Control Panel: Go to panel.hubseek.com and log in.
- Open the Websites section: On the left sidebar, click on Websites and select the website you want to back up.
- Go to Backups: In the top navigation, you’ll see a Backups tab. Click on it.
- Create a Backup:
- Click Create Backup.
- You can enter a note to remind yourself why you’re backing up (e.g., “before plugin update”).
- Once ready, click Backup Now.
Important: If you don’t see the Create Backup button, your hosting plan may not allow manual backups.
How to Restore a Backup
If anything goes wrong—whether it’s a plugin that breaks your site, a mistake in coding, or any other issue—you can restore your website from a backup. HubSeek makes it easy by letting you choose what to restore:
- Email Restore: This will restore all email accounts and forwarders associated with your website.
- Website Restore: This will restore all website files and databases, excluding email accounts.
- Custom Restore: This lets you pick specific files, databases, or email accounts to restore.
Here’s how to restore a backup:
- Log into your HubSeek Control Panel: Go to panel.hubseek.com.
- Open the Websites section: Select the website you want to restore.
- Go to Backups: Click the Backups tab in the top navigation.
- Choose Your Backup: Find the backup you want to restore from, and click Restore.
- Select the Restore Type: Choose from Email, Website, or Custom:
- Email: Restores all email accounts and forwarders.
- Website: Restores all files and databases.
- Custom: Lets you select specific files, databases, or email accounts.
Important Warning
Before restoring a backup, keep in mind that any changes made between your last backup and the point of restoration will be deleted. This includes new content, emails, or changes made since the last backup. Always check if you’re okay with losing any recent updates before restoring!
Wrapping Up
With HubSeek, your website is automatically backed up daily, giving you peace of mind. But for those times when you’re about to make big changes, creating a manual backup is a great extra step to ensure everything stays safe.
